This AG, organized by a collective of “anti-fascist” students in an amphitheater of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, welcomed more students than expected. Classes were canceled in the afternoon.
“Neither Macron nor Le Pen”: hundreds of students held an “anti-fascist” general meeting in an amphitheater of the historic building of La Sorbonne. This AG had been authorized by the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne which had granted a collective the use of the Oury amphitheater this Wednesday afternoon.
But the staff was quickly overwhelmed by the influx of students. Several hundred went there to force the doors of the place.
During this GA, they voted in favor of blocking La Sorbonne to protest against the poster for the second round of the presidential election, between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen.
The students hope to occupy the premises of La Sorbonne tonight. “If we manage to spend the night here, it will already be good“, testified one of the students while the first supplies were organized. Students notably passed cans, bananas and cups for dinner.
“Negotiations are underway with the Presidency“, explained at the end of the day Nathan Kohn, law student at Paris 1. “There is a mobilization of youth, a revolt in reaction to the poster of the between-two towers“, said Victor Mendez, president of Unef Nanterre, present at the Sorbonne. “It is fed up with the aggravation of precariousness, with regard to the future that is left to us with regard to the state of the planet,” he added.
Students have also been blocking the premises of the Ecole Normale Supérieure since Monday, on the Jourdan campus in the 14th arrondissement of Paris.
For safety, the rectorate canceled classes at La Sorbonne, an establishment shared between the universities of Paris 1 and Paris 4 this Wednesday afternoon. According to information obtained by France 3 Paris Ile-de-France, classes could also be canceled this Thursday, April 14.
In addition, several collectives have called for rallies in favor of the integration of Ukrainian students, including one at the Place de la Sorbonne on the same day.
