A candidate little known to the general public. Daughter of farmers who claims her roots in Mayenne, little known to the general public, Valérie Hayer has been an MEP since 2019. Aged 37, the president of the Renew Europe group has been appointed late to lead the list of the presidential majority (Renaissance, Horizons and MoDem).

The RN as designated adversary. Valérie Hayer is clearly behind in voting intentions by the list of the president of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella. From his entry into the campaign on March 9she therefore made the RN her main adversary, multiplying accusations of complacency vis-à-vis Russia and exploiting all the fault lines with the far-right party.

A positioning issue facing the left. LThe candidate of the presidential majority pleads for a pro-EU “surge” and for Ukraine. The positioning challenge is significant for the “Need for Europe” list which, on its left, must be maintain a distance from that of the PS-Place publique (led by Raphaël Glucksmann) and Ecologists (with Marie Toussaint at its head), two lists which also claim a pro-European commitment. In the last elections, in 2019, the RN came in first with 23.34% of the votes ahead of Renaissance (22.42%) and Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (13.48%).
