follow the hearing of Marlène Schiappa before the Senate inquiry committee

The minister’s turn to be auditioned. Before the Senate commission of inquiry, Marlène Schiappa must clarify, Wednesday June 14, her role in the controversial management of the Marianne fund which she launched in April 2021 to fight against “separatism” as Minister Delegate for Citizenship . The current Secretary of State for the Social and Solidarity Economy is heard from 10 a.m. by the senators, the day after searches of several key players in this file and while the rumors of a reshuffle are accelerating. The commission will then hear, at 4 p.m., Sonia Backès, current Secretary of State for Citizenship. Follow our live.

A fund under the spotlight. Following the revelations of France 2 and Marianneat the end of March, on a possible dubious use of the subsidies, an administrative investigation had been launched, a parliamentary commission of inquiry was set up and an investigation entrusted to an examining magistrate was opened by the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office.

A damning report. The report of the General Inspectorate of Administration issued at the beginning of June is damning: it denounces, among other things, the “privileged treatment” reserved by the committee responsible for allocating subsidies to the main beneficiary association, the Union of Physical Education and Military Preparation Societies (USEPPM), notably headed by the former journalist Mohamed Sifaoui.

Marlène Schiappa implicated by her ex-cabinet. Sébastien Jallet, the former chief of staff of Marlène Schiappa, revealed last Wednesday that the minister had intervened to dismiss an association yet validated by the selection committee, without revealing his name. It is in fact SOS Racisme, according to its president Dominique Sopo, who had submitted a request for a grant of 100,000 euros. At the beginning of April, the person concerned had defended herself from any breach.
