The transplant of women’s cycling on the roads of Paris-Roubaix has taken well. Seven months after a successful first edition, the peloton is doing it again, Saturday April 16. To further spice up the Queen of the Classics, while the sun is announced in the North, 8 km of cobblestones have been added to the fall edition of 2021 for a total of 29.2 km spread over 17 sectors.
In the absence of the British defending champion Lizzie Deignan, pregnant, this second act promises to be very open even if the Belgian Lotte Kopecky proved this season that she had to be counted on with her prestigious successes on the Strade Bianche and the Tour of Flanders. The Italian Elisa Balsamo (Trek-Segafredo), leader of the UCI classification, and the formidable Dutch Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) will also be to watch. Second in 2021, the Dutch Marianne Vos, triple world champion, had to forfeit at the last moment, because positive for Covid-19. She skipped the Amstel Gold Race Ladies last week to better prepare for Paris-Roubaix.
