It’s a fireworks display on the theme of Egypt that was offered to the public of the Foire Internationale de Bordeaux during the evening of Wednesday, May 25th. In video, the finale of this pyromusical show designed by Bordeaux resident David Proteau, artistic director of Ruggieri.
The theme of the 2022 Bordeaux International Fair is Ancient Egypt and more specifically the mysteries of Tutankhamun. During the evening of Wednesday May 25, the organizers offered the public a pyromusical fireworks-show designed by the Bordeaux resident David Proteau, artistic director of Ruggieri: “the fictional journey of Anubis and Tutankhamun through the Douat”. The nine scenes in this show recount Tutankhamun’s last great journey. The pharaoh is going to meet Anubis, funerary deity with the head of a dog, who is in fact the ferryman to death.
France Bleu Gironde: the story of Tutankhamun in fireworks
David Proteau, artistic director of Ruggieri : It is a pyrotechnic, musical show whose objective is to narrate the last great journey of Tutankhamun. This pharaoh is going to meet Anubis, who is in fact the ferryman to death. When we present it like that, we have the impression that it’s a creepy spectacle. This is not the case. It’s still fireworks. It’s very festive and throughout this show in nine acts, we tell this story, this passage towards death, with pyrotechnic illustrations and musical illustrations.
What are the steps to get to this pyromusical show?
The shows are all made to measure. They are even prepared for the most part in Bordeaux since I live in this city. We write the story, we write the narration then we will cut it into several scenes, several sequences which will include a key idea of the show. Then, we musically illustrate each idea and from that moment on, we have what we call the soundtrack. Once the soundtrack is built, you have to do the pyrotechnic writing, ie make sure that what you hear is illustrated with the fireworks. It’s the most complicated, it’s the most exciting. This is to ensure that the image and sound match perfectly.
An eco-responsible show?
Every year, we have what are called pyrotechnic collections. It’s like in fashion, but I would say that the collections have evolved. We have made sure that our new pyrotechnic effects are rather linked to the environment, that is to say new pyrotechnic compositions that are much more eco-responsible rather than creating new colors, new effects. We already have a whole panel. That’s enough to put on a show, now the goal is to make even cleaner fireworks. That is to say to ensure that the pyrotechnic compositions contain much less heavy metals and that some contain absolutely none. Try to get the carbon footprint of the fireworks to zero.
