Flushing Meadows Qualifiers | Gabriel Diallo defeats Sho Shimabukuro in three sets

(New York) Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo defeated Japan’s Sho Shimabukuro 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the first round of qualifying for the US Open on Monday.

Diallo, 22, is 144^e at ATP, while Shimabukuro is 242^e.

At the end of July, the Quebecer was the big winner of a Challenger tournament in Chicago.

In early August, Diallo lost in the first round of the Omnium Banque Nationale to Karen Khachanov, 23^e to the ATP.

His opponent in the second round of qualifying will be Titouan Droguet of France, 153^e to the world.

They met in a Challenger in June in England, with Droguet winning 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 in the first round.
