It’s a law “extreme and dangerous”, warns the White House. The Florida State Parliament adopted, Thursday, April 13, a text prohibiting abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, except in the event of “serious risk” for the health of the mother, of a fatal anomaly of the fetus, rape or incest.

Approved by 70 votes for and 40 against by the elected officials of this state in the south-east of the country, the law was then signed by the Republican governor, Ron DeSantis. The entry into force of this ban will make Florida one of the states that most restrict access to abortion without prohibiting it, since the historic Supreme Court ruling that allowed each American state to prohibit terminations of pregnancy on its soil.

“An increased risk to women’s health”

Florida had already banned abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy in April 2022. This tightening of the law marks a new victory for opponents of abortion in the United States, at a time when the future of the abortion pill is threatened, after restrictions on access to this stamp.

“This law prohibits legal abortion, but it will not stop abortion in effect. Abortions will simply be performed in private, without medical supervision and with increased risk to women’s health and physical well-being and mental”reacted the elected Democrat of Florida, Lindsay Cross
