Florida | Man executed for murder of two women

(Miami) A 54-year-old American, sentenced to death for the murder of two women in 1996, was executed Tuesday in Florida, in the southeast of the United States, according to local media.

Michael Zack was executed by lethal injection shortly after 6 p.m. at Raiford State Prison, according to the same sources. He expressed his remorse in a message published by a group of Florida residents opposed to the death penalty.

He was sentenced to death in 1997 for sexual assault, robbery and murder of a woman he had just met in a bar. He was also convicted of the murder of another woman he had met in a bar around the same time, for which he was sentenced to life.

His lawyers’ appeals on the grounds that he was mentally disabled due to fetal alcohol syndrome were all rejected, including on Monday his appeal for a stay of execution from the Supreme Court.

This is the sixth capital execution in Florida in 2023 and the 19e in the United States, all carried out by lethal injection.
