Florian Jouanny has well vented his frustration after his bronze medal the day before in the time trial. The French paracyclist won the road race on Thursday, September 5, in the H1-2 category, with his handcycle. Florian Jouanny thus repeats his performance from the Tokyo Paralympic Games, where he had already won the road race after taking third place in the timed exercise. Despite very capricious weather, which pushed back the start by an hour, the reigning 2023 world champion held his own to bring France its 51e medal, the 16the in gold.
Florian Jouanny patiently built his victory, as usual. The scenario of the World Championships in Scotland was repeated with the Spaniard Sergio Garrote Munoz, winner of the time trial on Wednesday, and who went into isolation from the start of the race. The 32-year-old Tricolore made the effort at the end of the first lap to reduce the gap. More strategic and fresher, the Tricolore let his opponent tire himself out before attacking in the Côte de Country, placed halfway through each lap, and widening the gap.It was hot, it was hard“, he assured just after crossing the line with a 22-second lead over Sergio Garrote Munoz.
He is now a double Paralympic champion in the road race, before a possible final fireworks display on Saturday with the mixed team relay H 1-5. After Wednesday’s rich haul (eleven medals, four titles), hopes of gold are allowed after the silver gleaned in Tokyo.
