With the 9th and 12th times, the two French failed to qualify for the final on Saturday.

Double disappointment, Saturday June 18, in the French clan. Neither Florent Manaudou nor Maxime Grousset managed to qualify for the final of the 50m butterfly at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest. In the morning, the two swimmers had pulled out of the series, Maxime Grousset beating his record over the distance (23″07).

Aligned in the semi-final of multiple American Olympic medalist Caeleb Dressel, Florent Manaudou (23″23) and Maxime Grousset (23″10) respectively touched the wall in 4th and 6th positions of their race. Despite a time still close to his record, ranked 9th in the semi-finals, Maxime Grousset missed the final by six hundredths. Florent Manaudou (12th) said he was quite satisfied with his performance having set his best time since 2015: “I have worked the 50m butterfly even less than the 50m freestyle since my return. I am where I should be, even if I would have liked to do one more lap.”

With a year of training, Florent Manaudou did not do enough time to make it to the final, but remains happy with his performance. Listen to his full reaction.
