At least 29 people have been killed and more than 50 injured by flash floods in several provinces in eastern Afghanistan, authorities said on Monday (August 15th).
Torrential rains in the past 24 hours in Parwan, Kapisa and Nangarhar provinces have destroyed dozens of houses, as well as crops and roads, the spokesman for the Ministry of Disaster Management said. A hundred people are still missing in Parwan, added the spokesman for the governor of the province.
Rescue teams and emergency aid have been sent to the affected areas. Dozens of Afghans die every year from torrential rains, especially in poor rural areas where poorly constructed houses can easily collapse.
