For three days, the inhabitants of Yonne have been living with their feet in the water. The floods continue and the department was once again placed on red alert on Wednesday April 3.

The tractor has become the only means of transport in Brienon-sur-Armançon (Yonne). The river overflowed, trapping local residents. “We move people around so they don’t get cut off from the world”, explains the driver. To get around, others opted for canoeing. Since Wednesday April 3, local residents have been watching the rising water levels with great apprehension. “This is the first time I’ve seen it to this extent.”points out Maurice Petit, devastated.

50 people were evacuated

Water has invaded the cellars, residents are preparing for the worst. “We have identified as many things as possible. We have already brought a lot of things upstairs”, notes a resident. A few moments later, the water was already seeping into his house by capillary action. The peak of the flood is expected at 10 p.m. In Chablis (Yonne), winegrowers fear for their production, because their wooden barrels are waterlogged. In the Yonne department, 50 people have been evacuated since the start of the flood.
