More than a week after the floods in Pas-de-Calais, the water level is struggling to go down. At least 130 businesses were flooded, according to the prefecture. Business managers see the list of damages growing.
To access his garage, Yoann Thomas, manager of the Couteaux garage in Longfossé (Pas-de-Calais), still has to submerge up to his waist in water. For the past week, this business manager has seen the list of damages increase. In his workshop, ten cars are drowned. It will be necessary to redo the premises and buy the tools. The mechanic estimated the losses at 500,000 euros. “It’s a disaster for us, we can no longer work. The water level is not going down. We have our employees, we have our customers”he regrets.
“I hope the insurer will be there for us”
Dozens of cars, destined for scrapping, were submerged, representing nearly 20,000 euros in additional damage. To get back on his feet, the manager is banking everything on insurance. “I hope the insurer will be there for us. We don’t sleep much at night anymore”, he testifies. According to the prefecture, at least 130 businesses were flooded. The Minister of the Economy assured that none would close because of these floods.
