Sunday September 10, Storm Daniel reached the Libyan coast. Two days after the tragedy, in Derna, the damage was spectacular and the residents were in shock.

The city of dernain Libya, was literally gutted by floods. The city is declared disaster-stricken. Cars were blown away by gusts of wind. The city is in ruins and under the piles of concrete are victims. Rescuers are overwhelmed by the scale of the disaster. The population is terrified. The city of 100,000 inhabitants was swept away by the violence of this storm. It is the residents who recover the bodies. Dozens of remains are lined up in Derna square.

Rescuers in difficulty

“Just in the city of dernathere are more than 2,000 dead”announces Ahmed al-Mormarithe spokesperson for the armed forces based in the east, who deplores many missing. A flood hit several towns on the Libyan coast on Sunday September 10. It’s a shock for the residents of Al Bayada. In the city center, cars disappear under the water. It is difficult to navigate the streets. Red Crescent rescuers intervene with difficulty. According to authorities, more than 5,000 people are still missing.
