Floods in British Columbia | The Armed Forces called in as reinforcements

The Canadian Armed Forces were called in to assist with recovery efforts in British Columbia, hit by flooding to the point where the provincial government declared a state of emergency.

The military will provide air and ground support to critical provincial supply chains and evacuation and rescue efforts.

Premier John Horgan said travel restrictions will be introduced to ensure essential goods and medical and emergency services can reach communities.

Defense Minister Anita Anand said more troops will be sent to help the hardest hit communities.

Teams will continue to search debris left by landslides along Highway 99 near Lillooet and Highway 7 near Agassiz to determine if any vehicles have been stuck below.

No bodies were found on Wednesday, but at least two people are still missing.

British Columbia Agriculture Minister Lana Popham said thousands of farm animals died when parts of the Fraser Valley were inundated, and efforts are underway to develop routes that allow veterinarians to access farms and treat livestock that may have survived.
