“The situation is catastrophic” Bangladesh has been hit by major floods, which have left at least 13 people dead and around 4.5 million people homeless, according to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on Friday, August 23.

Heavy rains have also forced the evacuation of 190,000 people to emergency shelters. The intense weather events are affecting 11 of the country’s 64 districts, the ministry said, particularly the eastern city of Feni.

This country of 170 million inhabitants, crossed by hundreds of rivers, is often hit by devastating floods. Vulnerable to disasters linked to global warming, Bangladesh deplores, each year, increasingly considerable damage during the monsoon rains.
