(Quebec) A little gem of television heritage is in danger: the original costume of the character Passe-Partout was “seriously damaged” by the rupture of a pipe which flooded Télé-Québec last week in Montreal.
It was the president of Télé-Québec herself, Marie Collin, who took matters into his own hands to try to save it, indicated the Minister of Culture and Communications, Mathieu Lacombe, on Wednesday.
“The CEO of Télé-Québec took care of it personally, she does business with a catering company, so we don’t know yet if it will be saved, but we are working on it,” said Mr. Lacombe in a press scrum, before the cabinet meeting.
He confirmed that the public broadcaster had suffered serious damage following the break in the seven-foot City of Montreal pipeline.
Administrative archives as well as computer and electronic equipment were thus submerged, but not television archives, he specified.
The disaster did not affect the broadcast of Télé-Québec programs because a contingency plan that had been tested was put in place, he added. Thus, Télé-Québec is continuing its activities from another location in western Montreal.
