A five-year-old child is in critical condition after a collision caused by the driver of a vehicle crossing the street at a red light, in Pointe-aux-Trembles, east of Montreal, Wednesday morning.

The collision occurred around 8:10 a.m. at the corner of Marien Avenue and Sherbrooke Street East. The driver, who was traveling southbound on Marien Avenue, allegedly crossed in front of a red light, hitting head-on a vehicle traveling on Sherbrooke Avenue.
Two children and two adults were inside the struck vehicle. A 5-year-old child was transferred to a hospital center, where he is in critical but stable condition, said spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Véronique Comtois.
The driver, who allegedly ran on a red light, is a 26-year-old man. He met with investigators on Wednesday to determine his involvement in the crash.
This busy intersection in the east of the metropolis has two streets with two-way traffic. There are traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.
Investigators moved to the scene of the collision.
