Is Grenoble (Isère) falling into a gang war against a backdrop of drug trafficking? On Thursday, August 15, a new shooting took place. This is the fifth in two weeks in this urban area.
Omnipresent, highly visible and very lucrative, drug dealing points in the Grenoble metropolitan area, in Isère, are the subject of a particularly violent and anxiety-provoking gang war this summer for some residents. “We live in such insecurity that we protect ourselves by avoiding going out at certain times.”says a woman from Grenoble. Conquering ever more territory: in two weeks, Grenoble has experienced five shootings. The result: one dead, nine injured and no collateral victims.
A resident who lives near the scene of the latest shooting worries that one day she might be in the wrong place at the wrong time. “It’s dangerous because of stray bullets”she laments. The police have been trying to dislodge the traffickers from the city center for months. According to the city hall, the resources are insufficient. For the prosecution, these shootings would also be the consequences of a drug plan that has been in place for five years.
