Five people were taken into custody after the death of a 19-year-old man on Saturday, August 3, during a fight in Prissé (Saône-et-Loire), near Mâcon, the city’s prosecutor’s office announced on Sunday. The investigation for “attempted voluntary homicide and voluntary homicide” has been entrusted to the research section of the Dijon gendarmerie.
“There are currently five people in custody, including the young girl.” who was allegedly the subject of a rivalry, revealed the public prosecutor of Mâcon, Anne-Lise Furstoss, at the end of the day. Three people, including the main accused, showed up at the police station on Sunday morning, the others having been arrested, she said. “It remains to identify and arrest other people among the attackers”according to the prosecutor.
Against the backdrop of a rivalry over a young girl leaving a nightclub in Mâcon, two groups met up to fight in Prissé, the prosecutor explained. Eight people attacked others who were in a car: two occupants of the vehicle fled, but were caught in the park of the town hall, in a dead-end location. One of them, aged 19, was beaten up and had to be taken in a serious condition to the Dijon University Hospital after being revived by emergency services. He died on Saturday around 3pm. The second suffered blows and fractures.
“At this stage, we must wait for the autopsy which will be carried out on Wednesday to establish whether the blows were inflicted with a bladed weapon.”the magistrate stressed. The municipality of Mâcon presented its condolences to the family of the young man and to the Turkish community from which he came. On Sunday afternoon, a silent march was organized by the Turkish cultural association of Mâcon, bringing together 800 people, according to the police, including the victim’s family. “Justice for Numan”, “I am Numan” (the first name of the young man killed) chanted the crowd.
