An investigation started last April

From a source close to the case at franceinfo, the investigation began at the beginning of April last on the basis of information received by the police officers of the departmental security of Yvelines. According to this information, a man from Mureaux was then suspected of receiving large quantities of cannabis resin every month in a warehouse. This same man was suspected of distributing this drug with an accomplice throughout the Yvelines department by placing it in vans.

>> The fight against drug trafficking may be a government priority, but the police and the judiciary feel powerless

Still according to this information, another man also living in Mureaux, considered to be the logistician, was suspected of giving orders to the other two. The police suspected him of warning the duo of the imminent arrival of the cannabis resin so that they could deliver it to the department. A preliminary investigation was then opened by the Versailles prosecutor’s office for drug trafficking. Investigators were able to identify the three men, including 27-year-old Mounir Z., franceinfo learned, still from a source familiar with the matter.

The police set up a surveillance device in front of his home and on the night of May 9 to 10, on the basis of this surveillance, they estimated that a new arrival of drugs was in progress. The police thus shadowed him from his home to Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) where he took the wheel of a utility truck, before going the opposite way to Les Mureaux. A few hours later, this same man, still tailed by the police, went with the utility to a warehouse in Les Mureaux.

The police believe that it was in this warehouse that the drugs were loaded into the utility truck, his two accomplices arrived at that time by car. It was then that the truck driven by Mounir Z. left the warehouse, escorted by Liesse O. and Youssef L. by car. The police who were still tracking the trio saw bags in the truck that looked like “Moroccan suitcases” – rectangular drug bundles wrapped by hand. They then proceeded to arrest the three men and discovered the 2.5 tonnes of cannabis resin in the van. One of the three, Youssef L. is part of a well-known Mureaux family from the police, franceinfo learned from a source familiar with the matter. The trio is now indicted and remanded in custody.
