Five Nights at Freddy’s outpaces Priscilla at the North American box office

(Los Angeles) The horror film Five Nights at Freddy’s remained at the top of the box office for its second weekend in North American theaters, ahead of Priscillabiopic about Elvis Presley’s wife, according to figures published Sunday by the specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.

But despite its lead in ticket sales, Five Nights at Freddy’s saw a precipitous drop in popularity from the weekend of its release, going from $78 million last week to just $19.4 million this week.

The feature film inspired by a video game broadcast both in theaters and on Universal’s Peacock platform “collapses during this second weekend”, notes analyst David Gross.

The film features haunted animatronic mascots who seek to kill a night security guard, played by Josh Hutcherson – his biggest role since the Hunger Games – and his little sister in an old pizzeria with abandoned arcade games.

This weekend again, the feature film is followed by the concert film of singer Taylor Swift The Eras Tour, released four weeks ago and which includes scenes filmed during three different concerts. He earned $13.5 million.

Killers of the Flower Moona film by Martin Scorsese, remains in third place with seven million dollars raised in North American theaters and crossing the symbolic threshold of 100 million dollars worldwide.

The film, which lasts more than three hours, is due to be released on Apple’s streaming platform, but no date has yet been announced.

For its first release this weekend, PriscillaSofia Coppola’s film about the wife of the “King”, finds itself in fourth place with five million dollars in earnings.

The work, based on the book by Priscilla Presley Elvis and mefollows the rock’n’roll star’s tumultuous relationship with the latter, from their first meeting on a military base in Germany when she was 14 and Elvis was 24, until their acrimonious breakup.

Cailee Spaeny, 25, who plays the title role of the biopic, was named best actress by the Venice Film Festival. Jacob Elordi was showered with praise by critics for his performance as Elvis.

For analyst David Gross, the film has “a rather honest start for a romantic drama”. It will perhaps gain popularity given “the excellent reviews and good audience figures”.

In fifth place, we find the Spanish-language film Radical, which collected $2.7 million in its first weekend. Based on a true story, it tells the story of a teacher in a Mexican town who “tests a radical method to unleash the curiosity and potential of his students,” according to producer Pantelion Films.
