five interventions including a fatal accident in a few minutes for the Oloron PGHM

The officers of the High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) of Oloron-Sainte-Marie were in great demand this Sunday, September 4. In the space of half an hour, between 12 p.m. and 12:30 p.m., they were called on five interventions. Three took place in Béarn, two in the Basque Country.

A fatal accident occurred in particular in Sarrance, in the Aspe valley. A 71-year-old woman from Idron slipped in a ravine while hiking with her husband at the King’s Throne. She rolled down a hundred meter slope. When paramedics arrived, she succumbed to her injuries.

Two interventions in Laruns

A little earlier, a first accident occurred at Laruns, at the peak of Lurien. A 21-year-old man fell about fifteen meters, carried away by a fall of stone blocks, while he was trail running. He suffers from some injuries to his legs and face. He was evacuated to Pau hospital.

Still in the town of Laruns, a few minutes later, a shepherd found himself stuck on a bad slope at the Pic d’Er. Carrying two puppies with him, he preferred to call for help. A gendarme then secured him and pulled him with a rope to help him get out of the place where he was stuck.

A malaise and a fall in the Basque Country

On the Basque Country side, the PGHM gendarmes intervened a few minutes later for a heart attack in a 69-year-old woman, at the Peak of the stairs, in Alçay. She was evacuated to Pau hospital.

Finally, a man fell at La Rhune, dragging his companion down with him. He suffers from head wounds while his wife is said to have dislocated her shoulder. They were both picked up by the gendarmerie helicopter and transported to Bayonne hospital.
