More than 5,000 people remain without power in western New Brunswick after a severe windstorm hit parts of Atlantic Canada earlier this week, downing power lines and leaving more than 100,000 people in black.
NB Power said Saturday on we have not safely restored power to all our customers,” the power utility wrote.
Powerful winds brought gusts of around 100 km/h to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia on Monday.
Officials said winds knocked down power lines across New Brunswick and more than 100,000 people woke up Tuesday morning without power.
NB Power slowly restored power to those customers over the week, although the utility said Thursday its network suffered “significant damage,” some of which required complex repairs with specialized equipment in areas difficult to access.
By late afternoon, the NB Power website indicated the majority of remaining outages were occurring in the Fredericton area and the southwest part of the province.
