Five people were arrested Monday, September 12 in Marseille, announces the prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhône, before Tuesday’s meeting in the Champions League between Olympique de Marseille and the German club Eintracht Frankfurt. The individuals arrested are all Marseillais. Four of them were arrested for “carrying a prohibited weapon” specifies the prefecture. The 5th arrest took place for “contempt of person depositary of public authority”.

Monday evening, groups of Marseille and German supporters were present in the city center. They sought to confront each other. The confrontation was avoided by the intervention of the security forces who dispersed the groups. There were no damages or injuries. At this stage, calm has returned, according to the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture.

This meeting between Marseille and Frankfurt is considered to be at risk, the police headquarters says it is planning a “reinforced security device”. The sale of alcoholic beverages to take away will also be prohibited from 2 p.m. Tuesday in the boroughs of the city center.
