French fishermen who still have not obtained their fishing license to go to British waters are angry. About 150 boats are therefore deprived of fishing. They took action by blocking several ports on Friday, November 26.
Red smoke from smoke bombs colors the port of Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine), in the morning of Friday, November 26. A dozen French fishing boats anchored here this morning to prevent the ferries British to dock. The blocking lasted an hour and is now up in Saint-Malo.
But the fishermen of Calais (Pas-de-Calais) have taken over. English ships will soon no longer be able to dock. “It’s more of a symbolic action to get the government to move and the UK government to move”, denounces Olivier The priest, regional president of the maritime and marine farms of Hauts-de-France. Fishermen are calling for more firmness from the government in negotiating fishing licenses with the UK.
