France is stepping up checks against British ships fishing in French waters. Despite this pressure stroke little appreciated by London, French and English, are open to dialogue.
In recent days, several British fishing vessels have been arrested by the French authorities. Indeed, these British fishermen were sailing in French waters. However, another reason is added to this: As long as the British do not grant French fishermen the authorizations to fish in United Kingdom waters, France will increase its controls.
Prime Minister Jean Castex defended himself by arguing that it is the British who do not keep their commitments. French fishermen hail the government offensive. They hope that will encourage the British to be more flexible and that they will be able to give them the precious sesame to fish in the waters of UK. On the other side of the channel, the fishermen hope that their government will not give in to French pressure.
