Fishing for carp at night on the Boutonne

Bruno Garcia, fishing guard at the Charente-Maritime Fishing Federation answers the listeners of France Bleu La Rochelle with a question from Gilles who asks us if he can fish carp at night in the Bel-Ebat sector?
Bruno Garcia : Before going into the regulatory considerations, a small remark on the private grounds of Bel-Ebat. And yes because the small constructions, the small cabins are built on private spaces and the use of these “bungalows” therefore becomes private. On the other hand, the Boutonne being a watercourse whose management has been entrusted to the Departmental Council, the banks have a status of public domain. So why am I insisting on this specific point? Quite simply because at the entrance to these lands there is a chain which blocks access and on this chain we can read on a small sign: private property.

France Bleu la Rochelle: Where are you coming from?

Quite simply to the pedestrian easement that exists along this watercourse in the public domain and which authorizes everyone over a width of just over 3 meters to circulate along the river. And I will say all the more for the fishermen since they rent the fishing right to the Departmental Council. So Gilles I’m sorry but the Bel-Ebat sector is not authorized for night fishing. You will therefore have to respect the legal hours there, ie half an hour before sunrise until half an hour after sunset. But the good news is that on the Boutonne you have three distinct sectors which will allow you to fish carp at night. Starting from upstream, one which extends from the Bernouet lock in Saint Jean d’Angély to the Houmée lock in Tonnay-Boutonne, i.e. 11 km, another in the same town of downstream of the Faubourg d’Aunis bridge to the pedestrian bridge and a last on Tonnay-Boutonne from the black pipe located a few hundred meters downstream from the Tonnay-Boutonne bridge to the downstream of the Cul de Boeuf.

Information for the days to come?

Yes on the subject of the fight against harmful species and particularly for coypu and muskrats. On the Marans-La Rochelle canal, a particularly sensitive sector with the proximity of the railway line. And yes the nutria digs galleries in the bank and that could weaken it. So from March 7 to April 15, the Departmental Council is setting up a trapping campaign using cages. Vairon Boutonnais volunteers will be at your disposal on Saturday March 5 to deliver your 2022 fishing license. This service will take place at the grocery store in the village of Dampierre sur Boutonne opposite the small square of the castle. Small clarification: only checks and cash will be accepted.
