There is still no agreement in sight between France and Great Britain. New discussions are due to take place on Monday, November 8. The wait is more and more complicated for French fishermen.
To find scallops, Cédric Anquier fisherman du Tréport (Seine-Maritime) sometimes has to go to English waters. Problem, his license is provisional and he doesn’t know if he’s going to be able to keep it. “It’s the state that decides, it’s not us. We don’t know how long we’re going to keep it. We can keep it six months, a year, we don’t know ”, he confirms.
If we take him away, that’s two months less fishing for him and his crew. “It hurts”, comments the fisherman, in the edition of 11 p.m. from Thursday 4 November. For some of his colleagues, the losses are already there, and they are costly. “For November and December, we will be at 50% losses, that’s for sure., figure David Desmaret. We can not get into our accounts, the weeks are really drawn to the ends.”
