First visit to Ottawa | Qatari Emir to meet Trudeau this week

(Ottawa) The Prime Minister’s Office announced Sunday that the Emir of Qatar will be in Ottawa for a two-day visit this week.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on what will be his first official trip to Canada.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the two leaders will discuss the current situation in Gaza, as well as Afghanistan and Ukraine.

The United States, Qatar and Egypt have spent months trying to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

The Prime Minister’s Office said Emir Al Thani’s visit is also an opportunity to work on other priorities, including boosting trade and investment between the two countries.

Mr. Trudeau said in a statement that the two countries are important partners.
