First trailer for Moana 2

Eight years after the original, Moana 2 will be on display on November 27. The first trailer, unveiled Wednesday morning, promises an aquatic journey that will take the young woman and her people into the seas of Oceania.

The Adventures of Moana (the voice of Auliʻi Cravalho, recently seen in Mean Girls) were first to continue as a series, on Disney+. Besides Dwayne Johnson, who reprises the role of the demigod Maui, only producer Osnat Shurer is back among the main architects of the first part.

The sequel was entrusted to David G. Derrick Jr., who signed and directed his first film. He worked on other Walt Disney Animation Studios productions, including Raya and the Last Dragon And Strange World.

On the song side, Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear take over for Lin-Manuel Miranda. Opetaia Foaʻi and Mark Mancina once again compose the music.

A few days ago, Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, indicated in a post on Instagram that filming the live-action version of Moana expected to begin by the end of the year. Originally scheduled for June 2025, the film by Thomas Kail (Hamilton) is due to be released on July 10, 2026.
