Friday May 31, a few days before the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the Landings, immersed in preparations in the Channel.
The helicopter has just landed on a US Army training ground. The 101st Airborne Division is demonstrating on the ground where the Landings took place in 1944. Sunday, June 2, they will carry out an exercise to commemorate the Liberation of the city. In total, more than 800 men from this American unit died during the operation. A true city within a city, the members of this division took up residence in white tents in Carentan, in La Manche.
In addition to commemorating the Liberation, the soldiers intend to immerse themselves in history to better pass it on to future generations. For the very first time since 1945, the 101st division is once again deployed on the Old Continent, it has been training in Eastern Europe since the start of the war in Ukraine.
