First reception of ministers at Matignon and new handovers expected Monday morning

First day of the new government. Michel Barner receives his team, which includes 39 ministers and secretaries of state, Monday, September 23 at Matignon for a breakfast. This meeting launches the day which will continue with the traditional handover ceremonies in the ministries. The members of the government will then meet around Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée at 3 p.m., for the first Council of Ministers. Follow our live coverage.

A round of handovers. A first handover took place on Sunday at the Ministry of Economy where Antoine Armand replaces Bruno Le Maire. Other ceremonies will take place on Monday, notably at the Ministry Justice at 10 a.m., Foreign Affairs at 10:30 a.m., National Education at 11 a.m. and Civil Service at 12:30 p.m.

Michel Barnier announces a roadmap. The Prime Minister spoke on France 2 on Sunday and first called “cohesion” and to “brotherhood” within his government, promising “compromise” “for the progress of the country”He then swept aside subjects dear to the French: Taxes, pension reform, women’s rights and LGBT.

Insufficient guarantees for the left. “Michel Barnier did not say a word about poverty. He did not propose anything in the face of the ecological emergency”reacted the rebellious vice-president of the National Assembly Clémence Guetté. The New Popular Front has already planned to draft a motion of censure which will be filed by the socialists after the general policy speech, indicated the head of the PS Olivier Faure. This motion needs the votes of the RN to be validated.
