First murder of the year 2022 | A suspect repatriated from Peru

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have repatriated a suspect from Peru in connection with the shooting murder of a 17-year-old teenager in Montreal.

The 18-year-old suspect arrived in Montreal by plane on Monday afternoon from Lima. Upon arrival, he was taken into custody. He will remain detained until his scheduled appearance on Tuesday.

The drama occurred on January 13, 2022 in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough. Around 6:45 p.m., an altercation took place between two groups of teenagers in an alley located near the intersection of Rivard and Roy Est streets.

Shots were fired and the 17-year-old was hit in the chest. The victim succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The suspects fled on foot. It was the first homicide of 2022.

Since he was a minor at the time of the crime, the suspect will appear in the Youth Division of the Court of Quebec and his identity cannot be disclosed. The police investigation revealed that he was the alleged shooter and he will be charged with second degree murder, the SPVM said in a press release.

On September 8, the police arrested another suspect, aged 17, in the borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. He appeared in the Youth Division of the Court of Quebec and is charged with second degree murder.

The SPVM invites anyone who has information that could be useful to the investigation to contact 911 or their neighborhood station.

Anyone wishing to share information can do so anonymously and confidentially by contacting Info-Crime Montréal at 514 393-1133 or via the reporting form available on the infocrimemontreal.ca website.
