First mid-mountain stage, Roglic goes hunting for the red jersey… Follow the 8th stage

On a 159 km route between Ubeda and Cazorla, the riders will follow a fairly smooth route at the start of the stage, before climbing two passes in the last 60 kilometres.

Will Primoz Roglic begin his comeback on Ben O’Connor, the current leader of the general classification? The day after a second victory for the Belgian Wout van Aert on a hilly course, and on the eve of a mountainous route in the south of Spain, the riders will start the first mid-mountain stage of this Vuelta, Saturday 24 August, between Ubeda and Cazorla (Andalusia).

The peloton will start with a hundred kilometers without major difficulty, before continuing the climb of the Puerto Mirador de las Palomas (second category pass), and that of the Sierra de Cazorla (third category pass), at the end of the course. A stage profile that should favor breakaway attempts. Second in the general classification at 4’45” from the red jersey, on the shoulders of Ben O’Connor, Wednesday, Primoz Roglic could take advantage of the uphill finish to gain a few seconds on the Australian.
