The Assize Court gives the floor to the 14 defendants from Tuesday, as part of the trial of the November 13 attacks. Salah Abdeslam was asked for the first time about his life, his career and his family.

Salah Abdeslam, the sole survivor of the November 13 commandos, was almost serene, Tuesday, November 2, in the box of the accused. He gave the court another face, calmly answering questions without ever getting angry. During the 2:30 hour hearing, he recounted his life before, years of idleness mixed with delinquency. He described his childhood as “very simple”. “I was loved by my teachers, I was a good student”, he added, calling himself a young boy “calm” and “kind”.

The story of this journey annoyed some survivors of the Bataclan. “It’s almost hard to believe that these are the people who can participate in such atrocious things. In life they weren’t too unhappy, they had a nice journey, with nice families”, believes Sidonie Michelet. Salah Abdeslam also spoke of his affection for his brother Brahim, one of the November 13 suicide bombers. “You should never forget that he took his brother to blow himself up in a bar and that he himself should be dead if he hadn’t been a coward”, swept Bruno Poncet, another survivor. The defendants will be heard again in January 2022, on the facts this time.
