First images of ‘Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ revealed

A first trailer for the series The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power was unveiled on Sunday during a Super Bowl commercial break.

Amazon had bought the television rights to JRR Tolkien’s work in 2017, in order to produce a series inspired by the fantastic universe of the trilogy.

The video released on Sunday reveals the first images from the kingdom of Númenor, of the young Galadriel climbing a snowy mountain, and shows battle scenes. A text tells us that “before the king, before the fraternity, before the ring, a new legend begins this autumn”.

The series takes place during the Second Age of Middle-earth, a period little covered by Tolkien’s novels, since it takes place thousands of years before the events described in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Highly anticipated, the first images broadcast during the Super Bowl have, for some, stolen the show from the sporting event. “Why do they play sports during the trailer presentation event of the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power ? “wrote Lou ironically on Twitter.

The first season was filmed in New Zealand, like the cinematic works. But production has recently moved to the UK, with Amazon announcing last Wednesday that it had signed a “major long-term” deal with a filming site near London.

With a production cost of around US$465 million for the first season alone, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is the most expensive series ever made.

The first episode of the series will air on September 2 on Amazon Prime, officially opening a 10-episode first season.
