With more than twenty years of experience in various Quebec groups, Catherine Coutu makes her solo debut with First: Helpan eponymous microalbum that deploys a palette of emotions and reflections on (non) romantic relationships. It is indeed an ode to friendships and bonds that transcend love, while the artist has long explored romantic terrain. Resolutely empoweringthe microalbum opens with COOL COOL COOL, a poignant observation on the “woman” syndrome cool “… All is not lost is a real favorite, with its delicacy and brutality that offer an introspective look at past mistakes and the desire for renewal. If First: Help does not revolutionize the genre, it promises an interesting musical future for Catherine Coutu. The production, by Francis Mineau and Guillaume Beauregard, is neat, and the microalbum reveals an artist in full maturity, capable of capturing the essence of human relationships with sincerity and nuance.
