Quentin Lafargue, Valentin Tabellion, Benjamin Thomas and Thomas Denis won the first gold medal for the French delegation at the European Championships, Friday August 12, in Munich. After dominating their eternal British rivals in the semi-finals, the Habs proved intractable to defeat Denmark in the final.
Led by a supersonic Benjamin Thomas, even though the latter was lined up for the last Tour de France, the French team managed to dominate its Danish counterpart, yet reigning Olympic vice-champion, in the final (3’50”507 against 3’51”692).
French track cycling once again holds the upper hand. It had been five years since France had been on the podium of the European championships in this discipline (2017, also the year of the last tricolor coronation). A few minutes earlier, their female counterparts won bronze in the same discipline thanks to Victoire Berteau, Valentine Fortin, Clara Copponi and Marion Borras.
