Napoleon, Ridley Scott’s latest film, promises to be spectacular. The trailer is a series of scenes, including battles, each as spectacular as the other and which show the breathtaking aesthetic choices of the American filmmaker. Like this foggy photo, sometimes reddish, which is enough to install a new atmosphere.

The feature film looks back on the ascent “quick and ruthless to emperorship” of Napoleon, can we read on the French site of Apple which produces the work for its streaming platform, through “the prism of (her) explosive and addictive relationship with his wife and his great love Josephine”.

“A crazy experience”

In the trailer, Oscar-winning American actor Joaquin Phoenix, who plays Napoleon, demonstrates in a few shots how talented he is. The British Vanessa Kirby (The Crown), his Josephine, succeeded his compatriot, Jodie Comer (Killing Eve). The latter had to give up the role for questions of schedule, reports Le Figaro.

We also discover in this first extract the French actor Tahar Rahim, who plays the general director Paul Barras. The actor confided to Telerama that his character, “forget” by history, had nevertheless been “capital” to the rise of Napoleon and that filming with Ridley Scott was “a crazy experience to live”.

The exclusivity of a great show for cinemas

Napoleon will first be released in cinemas. Sony Pictures studios are partners with Apple to distribute it in theaters. In France, it is announced for November 22. The approach illustrates the new policy of video on demand players who now take into account the wishes of movie theater owners.

Ridley Scott’s film was the star of the opening night of the CinemaCon festival in Las Vegas, high mass of American professionals in the sector, on the evening of Monday April 25 during which a sequence of Napoleon had been projected.
