First Canadian Leopard 2 tank on its way to Ukraine

(Montreal) Canada shipped the first of its promised Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine on Saturday, Defense Minister Anita Anand announced.

A Canadian Air Force plane “took off from Halifax with the first Leopard 2 battle tank we are donating to Ukraine,” the minister said in a tweet.

“Canada stands in solidarity with Ukraine, and we will continue to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with the equipment they need to win,” added the Minister.

“The battle tanks are on their way to help Ukraine. The first Canadian Leopard 2 is gone. Canada’s support for Ukraine is unwavering,” the minister proclaimed in another tweet accompanied by a video showing the loading of the tank and the departure of the plane carrying it.

Canada announced at the end of January its decision to deliver four German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, the day after a similar announcement by several Western countries.
