First at the Oscars: the ceremony will be presented by three actresses

The Oscars will have three mistresses of ceremony on March 27: actresses Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes, the organizers announced on Tuesday, who are striving to bring viewers back to this high mass of cinema with a declining audience.

It will be the first time since 2018 that the Oscars will have one host, and the first time since 1987 that they will have three.

The fact that three women are responsible for presenting the prestigious annual meeting of the American film industry is a first in the history of the Oscars.

The ceremony “this year aims to unite moviegoers. That’s why we’ve lined up three of the most dynamic and hilarious women with very different comedic styles,” show producer Will Packer said in a statement.

“We want people to prepare for a good time. It’s been a long time, ”said the three actresses, quoted in the same press release from the Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences.

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel was the last to present the Oscars in 2018.

The ceremony will be broadcast on the ABC channel and will return this year to Hollywood and its traditional Dolby Theater.

Last year, the Covid-19 pandemic forced the Academy to hold the gala evening in the large central Los Angeles train station, with a reduced scale, in accordance with health rules.

The television broadcast, without a master of ceremonies, had gathered around ten million spectators, a drop of 56% compared to 2020 which had already recorded a historically low audience.

On Monday, the Oscars announced the creation of a People’s Choice Award that will celebrate the most popular film of the season next month and will be decided via a vote organized on Twitter, a decision likely intended to attract a new audience of faithful.
