Fires: the growing concern of firefighters in the face of the advance of the fire in the Hérault

“The firefighters are worried about the night […]the fire is still not under control”says journalist Delphine Aldebert, present on site, Tuesday 26 July. The conditions are particularly conducive to the development of a large fire with very strong winds. The flames continue to ravage hundreds of hectares of vegetation with a progression of 1,800 meters per hour, driven by a violent wind.

Particular attention is paid to the left flank of this fire, near Aumelas (Hérault), where “the flames leap, driven by a swirling wind”, observes the journalist. A zone, moreover, difficult to access. 650 firefighters are preparing to spend the night fighting these violent fires which have already burned nearly 700 hectares. The firefighters are hoping for the wind to calm down overnight to fix the fire.
