Fanned by the north wind, the fire seemed out of control. “We have a fire that started around 4 p.m. in the town of Calce (Pyrénées-Orientales), on the edge of a departmental road. It started very quickly due to drought and the wind that there was in the area, in a difficult areaaccess”, explains Lieutenant-Colonel Patrice Lopez, commander of relief operations. Firefighters won their fight against the fire on Saturday evening. No casualties, no buildings destroyed: the fire is now stabilized, Sunday July 31.
