In the Pyrénées-Orientales, a fire broke out on Saturday July 30 at the end of the afternoon. Nearly 400 firefighters were mobilized on the ground, helped in the air by Canadairairplanes Dash civil security that drop retardant, and water-carrying helicopters. Great means, because in five hours, the fire covered 150 hectares of vegetation, and threatened several infrastructures, including a waste treatment center.

Fanned by the north wind, the fire seemed out of control. “We have a fire that started around 4 p.m. in the town of Calce (Pyrénées-Orientales), on the edge of a departmental road. It started very quickly due to drought and the wind that there was in the area, in a difficult areaaccess”, explains Lieutenant-Colonel Patrice Lopez, commander of relief operations. Firefighters won their fight against the fire on Saturday evening. No casualties, no buildings destroyed: the fire is now stabilized, Sunday July 31.
