3,400 hectares have gone up in smoke in recent days in Gironde, in a new devastating fire. The fire is fixed, Saturday September 17, but still not under control. Surveillance continues day and night.
The pressure has come down to the burnt sector of the Temple (Gironde), Saturday, September 17, but surveillance is still in order. A helicopter monitors the area in search of possible outbreaks of fire. On the ground, bulldozers travel the massifs to widen the tracks, and the trucks sink into the burned plots to extinguish the smokers. Same thing a few kilometers further in Saumos (Gironde) on the ground of a sawmill devoured by fire. Chips continue to burn.
Resumptions of fire are the concern of the firefighters, but also the anxiety of the inhabitants. Many of them watch day and night. “We have a shovel, a car and we ride a 4×4, we observe, we try to see if what is burning is secure, and that there is no vegetation around. If there is vegetation, we try to smother the fire and if necessary, we call people“, says Sarah Bienkowski, a resident of Saumos, who adds that people with cisterns are also making the rounds. The situation now seems more favorable, with lower temperatures and higher hydrometric levels.
