Fires in Gironde and the Landes: the disaster seen from the sky

From the sky of Gironde, we only see black and brown. 7,400 hectares were calcined. In the Landes de Gascogne forest, the fire passed so quickly that it did not consume everything. So there are a few green tops left. To Belin-Béliet (Gironde)the fire was so violent, that only the brick walls of a building remained. A total of 18 houses and outbuildings were destroyed. Other buildings escaped unscathed. They appear like miracles, standing in the middle of charred pines.

650 firefighters are still working on the ground. At the edge of the roads, in the forest, they trace firebreaks, like a sandy diagonal in order to prevent fire swings. The task is immense, but turns out to be almost ridiculous. A fire already appears in the distance. 16 hectares have burned at Sanguinet (moors). The war against the flames could still last several weeks.
