The fire is extinguished near Hostens (Gironde). Milder weather helped bring the flames under control. However, this is not the time to rest for the firefighters present on the spot who continue, Tuesday, August 16, to monitor and prevent a possible resumption of fire.
The battle against the flames appears to have been won by French and European firefighters. No question of lowering our guard, everyone remains on the alert, Tuesday, August 16, to prevent the fire from starting again. A long work of humidification of the borders and soils is in progress. If the French firefighters are back in their barracks, the European contingent has taken over on the fire front. “They are quite brave on the construction site. It’s tedious work, digging the ground sometimes up to 40 centimeters to find hot spots and watering”illustrates Lieutenant-Colonel Laurent Pharm, communication officer of Sdis 33.
Poles, Germans and Austrians therefore continue to lend a hand to the Girondin fire soldiers, out of breath after two devastating fires in the summer. “My men are really happy to be here and to help. For us, it’s a real opportunity”, assures the Polish lieutenant-colonel Grzegorz Borowiek. Investigators are also still hard at work. “The track of a natural recovery is favored by the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office. An investigation is underway”, underlines the journalist Mathilde Rezki, present on the spot. The fire had started in an area already burned by the Landiras fire.
