Fires in Canada: still 89 active homes

Thousands of charred hectares, still smoking. The same burning smell for hundreds of miles. The damage is significant. A total of 30,000 people had to be evacuated hastily. “When it comes to your family, and you have to leave your own home, you don’t feel good”summarizes a resident.

Federal government assistance

Some families have taken refuge in a communal shed, without really knowing where to go, fatalistic. “A house is a house, it can be rebuilt. I evacuated my family, my animals, my relatives and my friends, that’s all that matters”, says a man. The province of Alberta asked for help from the federal government, which was immediately accepted. On Tuesday May 9, the rain slowed the progression of the fires, but there are still 89 active outbreaks against 103 recorded on Monday evening.
