The forest fires raging in Canada have grown to such an extent that the smoke from the giant fires will arrive in France by Wednesday June 28. Is there a health risk?

A sun that struggles to break through and an ocher sky. The coasts of Galicia (Spain) are the first on the continent to be affected by the cloud of dust from the Canadian fires. The cloud exceeds the surface of France. The threat is the masses of carbon dioxide detected by satellite. We already have some smoke hanging over the country (…). On the other hand, from Wednesday, Thursday, we expect a higher concentration of particles“, details Ludovic Lagrange, meteorologist.

Fine particles will reach Europe

These particles, pushed by the westerly winds, flew over the archipelago of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon on the other side of the Atlantic on the evening of June 25, to the great astonishment of the population. As it crossed the ocean, the cloud got rid of some of its heaviest particles. Those which should reach Europe are therefore the finest particles, those “which go furthest in the body“, explains Dr. Clairelyne Dupin, pulmonologist. People with respiratory illnesses may experience seizures.
