Tuesday July 19, the fires also affected Brittany. 1,400 hectares burned in the Monts D’Arrée.

The Gironde is not the only department plagued by flames. In Finistère, a fire broke out in the Monts D’Arree. The images are very impressive, with walls of flames ravaging the Breton vegetation. In one day, 1,400 hectares have already gone up in smoke. On the ground, 260 firefighters are mobilized to try to stop the fire. Wind plays an important role in the spread of flames. “We really had a spread of fire in several directions”explains one of the firefighters.

The trajectory of the fire being difficult to read, the authorities proceeded to the evacuation of 500 inhabitants of Finistère. A gymnasium has been set up as a refuge for local residents who can no longer be present at their homes. A resident says: “4 in the morning, there was a knock on my door and then afterwards we all left at the same time (…) and then we arrived here. The fire shocked residents.
